Hello everyone…this is my first post (its me, Scott) so please forgive me if its not any good . Anway, I just wanted to update everyone on our progress. Zane has officially been released from the doctors care and he is nearly 100%. DeeDee is doing pretty good as well, her left arm hurts if she tries to lift Zane or something heavy and her bone in her foot still bothers her if she spends too much time on her feet. She has been my “rock” thru this journey and I would be lost without her.

I am slowly starting to get my body back together. My pelvis is pretty much healed. My jaw still has some numbness but this is suppose to go away in 3-6 months. The rehab on my shoulder is going very well. I really can’t lift anything with it but my flexibility is slowly coming back. The GREAT news is that I took my first steps on Monday, June 2nd. I walked around 40 yards (not all at once) but these were the first steps I have taken since the accident. The rehab people said approximately 6 weeks with the walker. I still use my wheelchair now most of the time since it bothers my left knee (I guess 5 screws in your knee will do that).

Thanks again to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. This has been the hardest thing we have ever had to go through and we couldn’t have done it without all of your prayers. Thanks again and God Bless!!

There’s no place like home…

Well, here is the long awaited update, that I apologize for not posting earlier. Since Scott has come home, things have been somewhat chaotic, but wonderful. He is doing very well and we are staying busy with doctor visits and rehab. Zane had his cast removed on Monday, so he is pretty much learning how to walk again. Me, well, my arm is healing well, but my broken foot is healing slowly so I now have “the big shoe” to wear. It’s not pretty but it does help with the pain. As for Scott, his pelvis, forearm, shoulder, and knee are all healing up nicely. Because the break in his knee involves the joint, he will not begin walking for atleast another month. Scott was very disappointed to hear this, but the good news is he had his wires removed from his jaw/mouth on Tuesday. He is still limited to soft foods for a few weeks longer. His rehab is going well, also.

As for life at home, like I said: chaotic but wonderful. Zane is very happy to have his daddy home, and I actually can atleast sleep at nights. Of course, Scott is very excited to be home. He is so much happier, has an appetite again! and gets around pretty well on his own. He has become more independent and less dependent on me.

As always, thank you to all of you who have prayed for us throughout this ordeal. We still have a long road ahead of us, but we can atleast see the light now!!! Thank you thank you thank you! A man I recently met, said, ” Today is a gift, that is why it is called the present.” Enjoy! -deedee-

It has been 5 weeks since the accident.

I was able to spend some time with Scott yesterday and wanted to share the good news. He is in good spirts and progressing very well. We were able to wheel him outside and visit in the garden area of the hospital. The theropist are recommending he be released from the hospital today!!! He is very happy about this and will continue theropy form home.

He is still in a wheel chair and cannot walk or put weight on his left side. He is able to move from the bed to the wheel chair by himself and appears to be gaining some of his weight back. He said he has lost about 15 lbs in the last 5 weeks (he does not recommend this as a weight loss program..).

Zane went to the doctor and they took off his cast. He put weight on his leg and it was still pretty painful. The doctor decided to go ahead and re-cast the leg for a couple more weeks.

Dee Dee is still holding strong and is sore and not sleeping well. Scott’s mom and Dee Dee’s parents are still in town helping with everything.

Many have asked what they can do to help at this point. Scott loves visits, meals are still apprciated (Scott is still limited on what he can eat..), yard work, etc..

hello, all! Today Scott had orthoscopic surgery on his left shoulder. There was much speculation as to how well the orthoscopic surgery would work and how much mobility Scott would have in his shoulder. However, everything went very well, and actually turned out better than expected. He will have limited motion/movement of his left shoulder, and his limitations are uncertain at this time. The surgery is not expected to interfere with his current rehab schedule, so he will continue with his rehab tomorrow.

After many sleepless nights, we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He are starting to feel that we are at the beginning of the end of this ordeal. Thank you to everyone for your prayers. We truly believe the prayers are healing our broken bodies, hearts and spirits everyday. God Bless you all!

Hello all! After 3 full days of rehab Scott is doing very well. A little sore but progressing better than they expected. It is getting easier for him to transfer from the bed to wheelchair, and wheelchair to bed. He is scheduled to have surgery on his left shoulder next Wednesday (don’t know what time yet). Recovery time for this is estimated 6-8 weeks, however, it is not expected to interfere with his current rehab.

Thank you to everyone who has come by to visit, Scott looks forward to that. Thank you to all who have brought food over, donated money, and thank you for all of your prayers. Please continue to pray for Scott’s full recovery, since we do have a long road ahead of us. God Bless! -deedee-

I was able to visit with Scott and Dee Dee tonight. Both looked very good. Scott was tired from rehab and all the food he is able to eat is starting to taste the same. They are going to have to do another surgery on his left shoulder. The date of the surgery is unknown at this point. They did not think this was going to slow down his rehab much since he cannot use his shoulder much right now anyway. I know they appreciate each and every one of you and your prayers.

Hello All! First of all, thank you to everyone for your concern and prayers. I have said it before and I will continue to say it, since we do appreciate all of you so much. Thank you to all of you who have provided dinner for our family. This is a tremendous help after those longs days and nights at the hospital!

Scott has been rockin’ and rollin’! I am very proud of his progress! On Wednesday, the dr. cut some of the wires in his mouth and replaced them with rubberbands so that he could talk and eat better. This has lifted his spirits in ways you cannot imagine. He has been getting up out of bed and into the wheel chair for an hour or two at a time for the last 3 days. He says the transfer from the bed to the chair is getting easier and less painful. Today he was moved to the Rehab side of the hospital. Beginning Monday he will began atleast 3 hrs of rehab per day. Scott did ask me to let everyone know that starting next week he will be ready for visitors; please keep in mind that due to the rehab/therapy sessions he will not be able to have visitors until after 4 pm. Therapists are estimating that Scott should be heading home in about 2-3 weeks, depending on his progress.

Thank you again for your prayers. I truly believe God is listening and healing our bodies, hearts and minds everyday. Enjoy today for it could be gone in an instance.

Update on Scott

Hello everyone!

I saw Scott, DeeDee and Zane today. They appear to be doing better.

DeeDee is getting around and trying to catch up on the many tasks that were pushed aside after the accident.

Zane is being a good sport in his cast and wheel chair.

Scott finally was able to sleep last night and felt much better today. He thinks by next week he will be ready for visitors. (We will post on this blog when he gives the go ahead). He appreciates all the prayers and concern. Right now the doctors are still working on a plan for Scott’s rehabilitation. With the broken jaw the first step is making sure he is able to get the nutrition he needs for his body to heal.
